Part 1 | Introduction

"The car is a temporary phenomenon, I believe in the horse." (Wilhelm II, German Emperor)

The fact that the story took a different course is well known.

The history of motorsport simulations is closely linked to the past and future of the automobile. The invention of the personal computer was the starting shot for a hobby that the reader of this article most likely pursues himself. Over the last 44 years, black and white pixel collections have developed into graphically impressive and highly detailed simulations. Racers all over the world use these simulations to prepare for real races. We use them to live out our passion for the automobile and motorsport.

In this blog we will take a closer look at one of these simulations - rFactor2 by ISI / Studio 397. We will explain the technical basics and simulation approaches of this title and show you that there is much more behind a "computer game" than the user might expect.

This blog will cover topics of driving dynamics, driving physics and the simulation of tracks and their occurrences in regular sections. With the help of theoretical basics, we will introduce you to the simulation content and depth of rFactor2.

In the first part - to be released soon - we'll take a closer look at the influence of the individual components on driving dynamics.

Until then your rFactor2 team of VR e.V.
